Everyone’s favourite cartoon doggy took a break from solving mysteries to visit Willows Care Home and say hi to staff and residents! They were both surprised and excited to see the familiar brown coat of Scooby-Doo, with the trademark black markings, making its way around the home, and wondered why he was able to make time in his busy schedule to visit.

The truth is that it was not the real Scooby-Doo, of course, but Canford Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer Laird MacKay dressed as Scooby for a very specific reason.

Back in 2021 Laird had visited the home dressed as Superman, having told our home manager Claudia Ramsamy that he would do so if she attracted more new residents. It was a lot of fun for the residents who really enjoyed the surprise of seeing Superman. Fast forward to 2023 – a similar challenge was issued, and Laird had to eat his words and dust off his Scooby outfit.

His visit gave a lot of pleasure to residents and their families who took pictures, shared memories and had a laugh with Laird. It also had a positive emotional impact on some of our residents living with dementia, as they recognised Scooby straight away, so all’s well that ends well!
