Social Care Covid Hero Claudia invited to the House of Lords

Claudia Ramsamy, our home manager, attended a very special reception at the House of Lords this week in honour of frontline social care workers – social care ‘Covid heroes’ – who are being recognised for their selfless and courageous care of others during the pandemic.

Jointly sponsored by the CareTech Foundation and Care Talk Magazine, the event brought together social care leaders and both the regional winners and national finalists of the Great British Care Awards Social Care Covid Hero awards. Claudia won the 2020 East of England regional final earlier this year.

The event was hosted by Lord Palmer of Childs Hill OBE and the presenters included Professor Martin Green, chief executive of Care England, and Patrick Quinn, owner of the Great British Care Awards. Both fulsomely thanked frontline staff for the “incredible” work done over the last two years. Also present was Professor Deborah Sturdy, OBE, chief nurse for adult social care in England.

Claudia enjoyed sharing ideas and experiences with the other attendees who were from all parts of England.

“This was a great experience, and I was proud to attend on behalf of Willows Care Home,” she says. “What I loved the most was the fact that people are acknowledging the hard work done in the care industry and are trying to make it known to others who don’t see all the amazing things that people do in care. I felt so emotional because all the speakers said that everyone in care deserves a medal for all they do, and we need to let them know about it!”
