Mary Mills has recently taken on the role of resident ambassador here at Willows and is absolutely loving it!

Each month she meets with the home’s management team to discuss issues raised by her fellow residents and also give her perspective on how to improve the quality of service.

“I really love interacting with management at meetings and also talking to other residents about the improvements that they would like to see at the home,” she says.

The lively 76-year-old came to Willows three years ago for respite care – and has been here ever since! Knowing the home so well, she is also keen to help the home achieve a CQC outstanding rating, an aim that is shared by home manager Claudia Ramsamy and her team.

Claudia says: “We love having Mary as an ambassador. She is not afraid to say what’s on her mind and has a very professional attitude.”

Straight-talking Mary is no stranger to business meetings and has a wide experience of dealing with different people. She was born in 1943, at the height of the Second World War, to parents Mary and Bob and grew up in Bethnal Green with her younger brother Robert. She left school at 16 to work for the Midland Bank and, later, an insurance company.

Mary remains close to Robert and children Theresa, Sandra and Stuart. Her daughters both work in a school for children with disabilities while Stuart owns a car business.

When she is not attending meetings at Willows, Mary loves reading, watching TV, gardening and feeding the birds.
